Japanese garden

Before

We found a paved courtyard enclosed by high walls and neigbourghing buildings with some planting at the back and sides that had been neglected.

The brief was to design a garden that could be enjoyed all year round, with a quality finish to blend with the style of the interior decoration. Given the intense professional life of its owners, the garden should be low maintenance.

The design is a western interpretation of a Japanese garden, with a central wooden structure that frames the “landscape” at the back, creating also an ourdoor space for relaxation and entertaining. A black japonese granite water feature and dark wood trellises add to the oriental atmosphere. We maintained most of the original plants, clipping them to shape, and added some other species to provide seasonal interest and complete the look, like a japonese red maple. The lighting system allows the garden to be enjoyed at night and during the winter.
